September 11th Memorial
The September 11th memorial was built in September 2007 as a tribute to all the fallen Irish Police and Firefighters.
The purpose of the memorial is to honor the fallen heroes and victims who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. To list each individual Firefighter, Police Officer and EMS Worker who perished while trying to save the lives of the civilian workers in the World Trade Center Also, to pay honor and respect to those civilians whose lives were lost on that fateful day.
The Objective of the Memorial is to have on the grounds of The Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural & Sports Centre a beautiful, fitting and unique attraction, to remember everybody including the Irish that were involved in the September 11th attacks on the Word Trade Centre. The beauty and the deep emotional feel of this Memorial will hopefully reflect both the tragedy of that day and the heroic response of that day.
The location chosen on the grounds is a piece of land just outside of our festival grounds. It lies between the festival grounds and The Irish Park. This is a heavily populated area all summer long. Due to a slight incline at this spot, a memorial placed here will easily be seen from Route 145 and will certainly draw people to it.
